Solar Eclipse, April 8 Announcement

Given the expectations of increased traffic with visitors to our region and the potential for unsafe sun viewing, the YMCA of Eastern Ontario is taking the following precautions for the health and safety of all.

  • Childcare programs will run; safety measures for children and staff are in place.
  • All Y facilities will run regular programs until 1 p.m. The fitness centres and gymnasiums will remain open, however, programs including fitness classes will not run after 1 p.m. Swim lessons are cancelled.
  • The SHAC at St. Lawrence College, and Kingston East Community Centre will be closed.
  • Brockville Y pools will be closed between 1 and 4 p.m. The regular swim schedule will resume at 4 p.m., however, swim lessons are cancelled.
  • Special notes:
    • Please plan for the anticipated heavier-than-usual traffic as well as darkness in our region during the eclipse.
    • Be sure to safeguard yourself against the harmful effects of observing the eclipse/looking at the sun. For specific health and safety practices, please contact public health units for safety information.
