Brockville YMCA Gym Expansion Announcement News Release

Brockville, ON – Wednesday, April 2, 2025 – The YMCA of Eastern Ontario is thrilled to announce the expansion and renovation of the Brockville YMCA gymnasium and other facility upgrades, thanks to the generosity of donors and community supporters. This significant and long-term investment in the Brockville facility will enhance recreational opportunities for people of all ages and ensure the facility remains a welcoming space for families, athletes, and community organizations.

Providing quality spaces where our community can thrive is at the heart of what we do at the YMCA,” said Rob Adams, CEO of the YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “With an aging facility, we recognized that work was needed to update and modernize our spaces. This project will allow us to continue delivering high-quality programs and services in a refreshed and expanded environment.

With several important capital campaigns already underway, the YMCA made the decision not to launch a public appeal out of respect for those efforts. Instead, we have been working diligently behind the scenes to gauge philanthropic interest in this project. The YMCA of Eastern Ontario is pleased to announce that funding for phase one has been secured, allowing this much-needed expansion and renovation to move forward.

The project includes:

  • Expansion of the gymnasium to accommodate more sports and recreation programming
  • Installation of new regulation-sized basketball, volleyball, and additional pickleball courts
  • A flexible gym layout with an electric curtain divider for simultaneous programming
  • Renovations to the women’s and family changerooms
  • Upgrades to the parking lot, main hallways, and roof

The YMCA has applied for a minor variance with the City of Brockville, as the gymnasium expansion will extend onto the current green space. Final approval is anticipated soon, with construction expected to begin in May.

"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the local businesses, foundations, and supporters who have already committed to this project. Their generosity is making it possible for us to enhance our facilities and better serve our members and the broader community," said Adams. "The Brockville YMCA has always been a hub for connection, fitness, and well-being, and this investment ensures we can continue to support our community for years to come."
