McHappy Day, Outdoor Courts & Program Guides Rob's Blog

Dear Members and Friends of the YMCA of Eastern Ontario:

Coming off of another successful McHappy Day, I am writing to bring you up-to-date on this event and upcoming activities at the Y.

McHappy Day

We are honoured to have been chosen as the local charity for McDonald’s in Kingston and Gananoque for McHappy Day again this year. Our enthusiastic employees turned out in numbers to help out at various restaurants across both locations and, despite the weather, helped to raise more than $34,000 to help children in our region attend camp.

These funds will contribute to our Send a Kid to Camp Campaign. Last year, with your help, we were able to subsidize 34 per cent of all camperships! We hope you will participate in our campaign again this year.

Summer Camps

Many of our summer camps are already filled, however, we have spaces available at Brockville YMCA and Kingston East Community Centre, as well as for ages nine to 13. We welcome anyone to apply for our financial assistance program to assist your child in attending one of our enriching summer camps.

MPPs Visit

Hon. Raymond Sung Joon Cho, MPP for Scarborough North and Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, and Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, dropped by the YMCA of Eastern Ontario today to try out the new pickleball courts and spend time with area seniors.

We’re always happy to host and share the work the Y does in the region and we’re especially thrilled to display our recently completed courts. It was a pleasure have Minister Cho and MPP Clark here to tour the Y and to participate in a game of pickleball with some of our members. The courts are both accessible and night-lit, which is a tremendous community asset.

Open House

We hope you’ll join us on Sunday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Otto Almoslino Courts Open House at Brockville Y. You’ll be able to check out our beautiful pickleball and basketball courts and have a game or two, as well as watch some demonstrations. This event is open to all.

Pickleball Tournament

Stay tuned for information about our first pickleball tournament coming July 20! We are in the early planning stages now and look forward to sharing details with you. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact me for details.

Gord Brown Memorial Golf Tournament
This year’s golf tournament will take place on Wednesday, August 21 at the beautiful Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course in Lansdowne. While tickets are already sold out, we have a few on hold for event sponsors. Please let me know if you’d like information about becoming a sponsor.

A Peek at the Fall

We are looking forward to the annual fire truck pull at Brockville Y. This year is the 10th anniversary and we will have lots of goodies in store to enhance the event! Save the date for October 19.

We are also planning a cycle-a-thon at Kingston YMCA in November. There is always something happening at your Y!

We’ll be sharing more details on all our events as they become available.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful and safe summer.

Warm regards,

Rob Adams
