Summer's here! Rob's Blog

Dear Friends of the Y:

Isn’t it great to be in the re-opening phases just in time for summer and summer fun?!?

I’d like to give a big shout-out to all the dads, guardians, father-figures and mentors and to wish you a very happy Father’s Day. Although many of us won’t be able to be with our kids again this year, I hope you are able to connect and spend some time with those you love.

While things won’t be completely back-to-normal as Covid protocols remain in place, we’re pretty excited at the YMCA to be getting back to a few things that we love like offering summer camps, lifeguarding and even getting back to our advanced aquatics courses.

Our team has developed some really great camps for kids ages six to 12. Peddleheads for cycling, the ARTisan Club for crafts, Y Athletes for sports, Tactile Training for fitness, Bring the Beat for dance and Urban Pathfinders for explorers.

Camps will be in Kingston, Brockville and Kemptville. Registration is open now and spaces are very limited as group sizes remain small. Financial assistance is available. You can find all the information you need on our website.

In other good news, we are excited to be bringing Y expertise to the Prescott swimming pool with Y swim lessons, aquafit classes and lifeguarding. You will also be able to find us lifeguarding at St. Lawrence Park in Brockville. It’s really starting to feel like summer is here.

We also have plans underway to offer advanced aquatic certification courses beginning later in July. We will ramp these up through the coming year to address the severe lifeguard shortage due to the shut-down of training. Anyone who had training interrupted in the spring will have first dibs at continuing their certification. More information will be available on our website and through our social media sites in July.

It has been a very long 15 months, but there is hope on the horizon as more of us receive our vaccinations. We are very much looking forward to seeing you back at your Y soon!

Wishing you a happy weekend,

Rob Adams
