The George E. Smith Memorial Fire Truck Pull for the YMCA a Resounding Success!

News Release

Brockville, ON – The YMCA of Eastern Ontario’s annual fire truck pull held this past Saturday was a resounding success.

Ian McFall, chair of the George E. Smith Memorial Fire Truck Pull, and executive vice president of foodservice and industrial sales, and government relations with Burnbrae Farms Limited, set this year’s goal at $50,000, an amount surpassing that of previous years. As of today, the amount raised stands at a whopping $63,767.15.

Congratulations and a full year’s bragging rights goes to the fastest team and winner of this year’s pull, the Brockville Fire Department who raced to the finish in 30 seconds!

“We are extremely grateful to Ian and the team at Burnbrae Farms. They have gone the extra mile to make this year’s event a resounding success,” Rob Adams, CEO of YMCA of Eastern Ontario said. “The fire truck pull has proven to be a popular community event and I know that I speak for everyone at the YMCA when I say, ‘thank you’ to our sponsors, the participants and everyone who donated to support a team.”

The George E. Smith Memorial Fire Truck Pull raises funds for the YMCA’s financial assistance program that provides support to those in our community who would not otherwise be able to access the Y’s programs and services. The need in the community has grown during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As a charity, the Y supports one in every four memberships through our financial assistance program. Without the help of our wonderful community, so many people would not have access to the Y’s healthy programs and inclusive, safe spaces,” Adams said. “The Y is open to everyone and someone’s ability to pay should not be a barrier to their participation.”

The YMCA of Eastern Ontario would like to thank the Smith Family for their enthusiastic support of the event named in honour of George, and to the following sponsors for their contributions.
