YMCA and City of Kingston Partner to Offer Y Memberships for Artillery Park Members News Release

Kingston, ON – The YMCA of Eastern Ontario and the City of Kingston have partnered to offer YMCA access to membership holders of Artillery Park Aquatic Centre to the end of 2020.

“As a charity that supports vulnerable members of our community, we are very supportive of how the City has repurposed Artillery Park and are happy to assist them in this transition,” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “Partnerships are effective in addressing the evolving needs of our community and the Y has been active in offering our assistance and collaborating with other organizations.”

City members should have received an email to apply for their Y membership. This application must be completed and returned to the City by November 12. For information, City members may contact recreation and leisure services at recreation@cityofkingston.ca.

“We are pleased to partner with likeminded agencies like the YMCA and to be able to offer access to fitness programs for our members,” said Lacricia Turner, director, recreation and leisure services with the City of Kingston.

The Y offers a range of services including aquatics, group fitness classes, and functional fitness and fitness centres, personal training, YThrive (four expertly designed workout routines offered at no cost to Y members) and Total Life Care (specialty exercise for individuals with chronic conditions). A list of YMCA programs and services can be found here.

“We know the importance of regular physical activity, but we don’t always consider that being active along with the many positive social connections that people make at the Y are also important for mental health. In offering access to our programs and services, we can have a positive impact on our community, especially during the pandemic when stress levels can be higher than usual,” said Adams.

When coming to Kingston YMCA at 100 Wright Cres., City members who have confirmed their participation and completed the associated documents, should bring their City membership card along with a piece of photo ID.
