Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Gord Brown Memorial Golf Tournament teed up for Wednesday August 17 at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course to raise funds for local people in need.
The United Way Leeds & Grenville and the YMCA of Eastern Ontario are collaborating on the event and all money raised will go directly into programs offered locally, ensuring that our community continues to receive support and programming provided by both charities.
“This tournament really signifies the commitment between the YMCA Eastern Ontario and United Way Leeds & Grenville to help make our community stronger and more resilient and to help bring the late Gord Brown’s vision of a healthier community come to fruition,” said Trish Buote, United Way Executive Director. “We are an organization based on demonstrating the greatest impact with the dollars entrusted to us by our donors”
The past two years have put extreme pressures on everyone in our community; anyone already struggling has been particularly challenged throughout the pandemic.
“The United Way and the YMCA provide and support programs that directly impact people in our communities,” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “At the Y, we provide healthy programs as well as inclusive spaces where visitors can feel safe, meet new friends and engage in positive social connections – the latter was sorely missed by anyone who had to isolate and we’re seeing the mental health issues that arise from that. We have also seen need for our services grow. One in five Y memberships is supported through our financial assistance program, which is funded through the generosity of donors.”
The late MP Gord Brown’s family is extremely happy to support this year’s golf tournament and are proud to continue Gord’s legacy of giving back to our great community. Gord would have made it his mission to ensure that we recovered and thrived. Participating or sponsoring this event is a way to make this vision possible.
“We are proud to work with the Brown family to ensure this is a fun event worthy of celebrating Gord’s memory,” Buote added. “We are excited to announce that Gord’s eldest son Chance and his brother Jeff will be our honourary co-chairs for the event.”
The tournament will attract golfers of all levels who are looking to support a worthy cause and enjoy a beautiful course – and have the opportunity to golf with a famous sports personality or two. This year’s tournament fees are $796 per foursome or $199 per person, which includes golf, cart, dinner, special tastings/experiences at various holes, golf with NHL alumni and a chance to win fantastic prizes throughout the course.
"We hope that people will come out, have a great time and help build resiliency in our region,” Adams said.
