YMCA of Eastern Ontario

Building healthy communities

Back to News
Rob's Blog I jinxed it!

Well I got burned. The second I put my snow shovel in the shed for the season, BAM!! I will NEVER learn not to think that a bout of warmer weather doesn’t mean winter is over.

This week, I was given a few opportunities to connect with other community agencies to consider how each of us might be able to collaborate more on community issues.

On Monday, the YMCA was a key event sponsor for a Turf, Trust and Collaboration exercise in which many agency leaders from across Brockville and Leeds-Grenville participated. We had some great dialogue on being less territorial and more willing to work together.

Tuesday and Wednesday, I met with City of Kingston staff at the Rideau Heights Recreation Centre to explore potential opportunities to deliver some summer YMCA programs. At this time, there's no announcement, but will keep you posted. During these two days, I was also on a conference call with YMCA Canada and I attended a youth engagement committee meeting.

On Thursday morning, I attended the City of Brockville Mayor's Update Breakfast; in the afternoon, the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington invited me to represent the YMCA at their Youth Mental Health Services Planning Day. The result is that the YMCA will be sitting on the sub- committee focusing on developing safe spaces for youth.

Today, I will be meeting with former board members and current donors, and will be checking in on Teen Night as I haven't been there in a few weeks.

Next Week’s Schedule:

  • Monday: Brockville, Annual Campaign Committee and YMCA Ontario CEO Diversity Sub Committee meetings
  • Tuesday: Kingston, Meeting at Hotel Dieu and Governance Committee Meeting
  • Wednesday: Brockville am Agency Lead Table Meeting; Kingston pm
  • Thursday: Brockville am; Kingston pm for Providence Manor Design meeting #2
  • Friday: Brockville, North Grenville Chamber of Commerce AGM.

Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for all you do!
