Wishing you happiness this holiday season

Dear Members and Friends of the Y:

As each year draws to a close, our thoughts often turn to the year that has been and to the year ahead. There can be no doubt that 2021 has been another roller-coaster year as we continue to live with iterations of the virus. Looking to 2022, it is most likely that this will continue.

With this knowledge, it is more important than ever that we take care of our mental wellbeing. Although how we do this will be unique to each of us, contentment often stems from the simpler things in life: feeling gratitude for the good things, getting outdoors, doing things that give us joy and connecting with the people we hold dear.

For me, this means sharing time with my family whether we are going for walks, cheering on our favourite teams, sharing a meal and laughing together, or challenging each other to a winner-takes-all board game. My family gives me the greatest happiness and they help me to recharge. I also take time for me, often going for a run in the crisp, cool air.

Taking time to rejuvenate is critical for good mental health. This is the reason that the Y will be closed December 24, 25 and 26 (Correction: 24, 25 and 26, not 27) – to give our employees time to rest and be with those they love.

My wish for you is that you are also able to take some time to relax, to disconnect from the hurriedness of the world and to practice some self-care. Your wellbeing is important to the people in your lives and it is important to us.

Wishing you health and wellbeing this holiday season and always,

Rob Adams
