BROCKVILLE, ON – This summer, the YMCA of Eastern Ontario will bring its aquatics expertise to St. Lawrence Park under a new lifeguarding partnership agreement with the City of Brockville.
“We are pleased to have worked with City staff and council to be able to bring our expertise to Brockville’s beautiful waterfront,” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “This agreement with the City is a positive step in our discussions toward what we hope will be a positive and long-term partnership.”
St. Lawrence Park is known as one of the city’s most beautiful waterfront areas with a sandy beach, a camping area and a canteen. The park also boasts a canoe and kayak launching area at its western edge.
The YMCA will guard the beach from June 28 to August 29, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are plans in the works for two special Y events: one focusing on water safety that will be held at the end of National Drowning Prevention Week in late July, and a Family Fun Day in late August.
“The YMCA is renowned for its aquatics programs including water safety training and lifeguard certification,” said Janette Loveys, city manager, City of Brockville. “We are pleased to be able to bring this experience to our residents and visitors of our waterfront. We are also looking forward to the events the Y is organizing to add to what we hope will be an enjoyable summer for everyone.”
