YMCA of Eastern Ontario Moves to “Protect” Protocols News Release

BROCKVILLE & KINGSTON, ON – The YMCA of Eastern Ontario will be moving to “protect” level protocols effective Monday, November 23 at its locations in Kingston and Brockville.

“Since the outset of the pandemic, we have taken a proactive approach to the health and safety of everyone at the YMCA,” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “Based on the information from our medical officer of health that Kingston is expected to be re-classified to yellow zone measures, our facilities will be implementing those precautions as of Monday, Nov. 23.”

Protect level measures include:

  • Limiting the volume of music to a conversational level to prevent shouting by both instructors and members of the public
  • Increasing spacing from two to three metres
  • Limiting fitness classes to 10 people per room indoors and 25 outdoors. This does not include aquafit or weight rooms.

In addition, access to Brockville and Kingston Ys will be limited to members. This means that no day passes will be sold.

“Because of the additional spacing requirements, we will be adapting our classes and updating our schedules,” Adams said. “We want to continue to provide a positive experience for everyone who comes to the Y.”

Since opening on September 1, the YMCA of Eastern Ontario has been in regular contact with public health units in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District, and Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington. We have had in place other measures required at the protect level including obtaining contact information and registration upon entry to facility. Requirements to wear masks when not working out and room capacity limits are also in place.

New signage will be installed over the weekend to remind everyone in the facility of the more stringent requirements.
